Week 1 Two Cultures

WEEK 1 Two Cultures
The ever present changing factor in life is technology. We see it all around us with machinery taking peoples jobs and changing the way people do their jobs today.
The authors of both of these articles mention many different ideas that are pretty interrelated. In "Toward a Third Culture: Being in Between", Victoria Vesna describes ur lives as all being intertwined in some way because of the use of technology whether it be using the internet for research or posting interesting facts on the web, we use it for many different purposes. What also leads most to use the technology is the fact we will see change and instantly some article on the internet or new update for a phone will occur to make it the best it can possibly be. With Snow also talking about spending many hours wrapped around the technology that is is constantly evolving and becoming the best everyday and improving workplaces.
(The ever changing and increasingly smart iPhone gets better and better everyday a new one is released.) |
What makes these articles pair so well
together is the fact that they both argue the
same point, that is we as millennials are
experiencing the change everyday of our
lives and not realizing the changes going
on around us. Us young people are changing
the world everyday with new inventions and
new ideas that were never thought of before.
I see this revolutionizing society all
around me everyday at UCLA. Whether it be good or not everyone is on their phones (typically iPhones). But we here at UCLA are always trying to find new ways to do tasks and improve the world around us. Such as the "Bird" which is a motorized scooter that is only a $1 at a time. It revolutionized the way people get around here at UCLA.
These ideas make me realize that maybe I'm not the only one trying to invent something new everyday and finding new ways to do tasks that were so laboring before. It gives me reinforcement knowing that I'm not alone in this fight and there are others around me trying to be successful with the technological advancements that keep occurring.
These new ideas that were brought to my mind just fascinate me. The way we as humans are always trying to find the best possible way to advance as a world technologically.

Hey Zach, I would agree that our world is changing rapidly due to technology. I think referring to the articles really helps you make your case. The birds are a great example of a new idea and invention that is revolutionizing our world.
